HISTORY of Cwmbran R.A.F.A.

The Cwmbran 1209 branch Royal Air Force Association was formed in 1964 the search was now on for club premises and after 9 years on and off a club was obtained for a 50% rental which then was a disused social club .

Armed with volunteer workers from within the branch and a £4000 loan from the brewery the club was renovated , altered and furnished allowing the club to open in July 1974 . In the October of 1974 the R.A.F.A. (1209)Branch was officially opened by A.C.M.Sir Hugh Pughe Lloyd C.B.E.,K.E.B.,M.C.,D.F.C.,L.L.D.

In 1978 with a further loan from the brewery the club purchased half of the building and again in 1982 another loan bought the remaining part of the building. In the short period of 18 months with volunteers from the membership a big transformation of the interior of the club took place.New rooms were built consisting of a sports room ,lounge and kitchen with facilities, the remainder of the club was left to the T.A.V.R. as a H.Q. for the 2308 Squadron Air Training Corps .

In October 1995 the last payment in respect of our loans was made , making the R.A.F.A.Club a Free House just 21 years from it's commencement ,a remarkable achievement considering it was all done by volunteers.
